Bağcılar is one of the districts on Istanbul's European side where housing and working life sit side by side. Its residential weight falls on two points, Mahmutbey and Güneşli, both on the Basın Ekspres corridor, an axis that has become one of the city's newer business belts through its density of offices and hotels.

Transport defines the district. Mahmutbey station is the interchange between the M3 line, which runs from Kirazlı toward Başakşehir and Olimpiyat, and the M7 line, which connects Mahmutbey to Mecidiyeköy.
